Most drywood jobs we see in Southern California do not start with a tent over the house. We inspect first, then treat the wood that actually has activity — so you can usually stay home.
That is the plan when the inspection supports it. Tenting is still used in this industry for some infestations. We will not tell you it is never required.
How localized treatment works
A technician walks the property, looks for live activity, damaged wood, and the usual entry and moisture clues, then writes what they found.
Treatment is targeted. The active we use for many termite jobs is chlorantraniliprole, modeled on a compound from Ryania speciosa. We often pair work with Nature-Cide products. Low-toxicity for kids and pets when used as directed — not “organic” and not pesticide-free.
You get a written estimate before anything is applied.
What an inspection decides
Without a look at the structure, “no tent” is a slogan. With one, it is a yes/no on whether localized work fits this house.
We check attics, crawl spaces where they exist, eaves, window frames, and other wood that drywood termites actually use in this climate. Subterranean signs (mud tubes, soil contact) get a different conversation than drywood in a fascia board.
If localized treatment is not the right tool, we say so in the estimate. No obligation either way.
Stay-home vs tenting
Fumigation means leaving the house, bagging food, and waiting out the process. Localized treatment is built for the opposite: treat the infested wood and keep the household running.
“Typically no tenting” is honest. “Never tent” is not. Large, scattered, or inaccessible drywood activity can still point to fumigation. We would rather lose the job than oversell the method.
